Automatic Machine Data Collection

Xylok has the ability to automatically fill in most of the optional information for machines that would otherwise take a lot of time to enter in manually. The process to do this involves re-scanning any machine that didn’t previously use the Xylok OS Baseline benchmark. However, Xylok will continue to add automated features that build off of this benchmark, and from now on will include this benchmark on all scans for machines automatically.

This feature is currently supported for the following operating systems (will continue to update):

  • Windows 7
  • Windows 8
  • Windows 10
  • Windows Vista
  • Windows XP
  • Windows Server 2008
  • Windows Server 2012
  • Windows Server 2016
  • RHEL 5-8

The following process will populate much of the optional machine information visible when viewing a machine’s details, including:

  • Make
  • Model
  • Serial number
  • IP
  • MAC
  • Hostname

Process

  1. Assign the Xylok OS Baseline benchmark to each machine desired to use this feature (if not already assigned).

  2. Scan the machine and import the results back into Xylok. Additionally, any time post-processing is run on this machine, it will attempt to fill in the fields again.

  3. Navigate back to the machine’s overview page to confirm machine information was collected.

  4. If none of the above fields have been filled in, Xylok will attempt to fill them in automatically, and no further steps are required.

  5. If one or more fields have been filled in, and Xylok finds a different value, an alert will be displayed at the top of the page:

And any fields with a discrepancy will look like this (Model is used as an example, but all optional fields will behave identically):

  6. Click the choice you want for each detected item. In the example above:

    • Keep current value will keep “Latitude”. If post-processing is ran again on this machine, this alert will be displayed again as Xylok will detect the discrepancy.
    • Update to scan value will update the value to “Latitude 7490”. This alert will no longer show again since it will match what Xylok recognizes the machine model as.
    • Keep current and do not ask again will keep “Latitude”. If post-processing is ran again on this machine, this alert will not show up again for this field.
