Location Details
Locations are the basic unit of organizing machines within Xylok. They may represent broad groupings of machines at different sites across the globe, different buildings, or even specific server racks. Locations do not affect the data or results from Xylok and machines can be moved around freely as your needs evolve. Locations can also be nested, allowing items to be broken down to as fine-grained a layout as needed.
The top level view of a location shows an overview of the machines and data under that location. It is very similar to the Client screen, but only displays information related to machines under that location.
The items available on this screen are:
- Location metadata: A name, short name (often used for display purposes), what client it falls under, and it’s “parent” location if it has one. This box allows the user to edit that data, remove the location, and download the data collection scripts for that location. Deleting a location may require removing all machines under it.
- Question Answers: As with a client, some benchmarks may need additional information which can be answered on a per-location basis. See Question Answers under Clients for more details.
- Machines: The machines that fall under this location. New machines may be added using the “Add Machine” button. Existing machines can be moved to this location by editing that machine’s Location.
- Benchmarks: Locations may have benchmarks assigned to them. These are generally non-automated questions about the location itself; items like physical security, fire suppression, and emergency procedures.
- Location: Lists all the locations under this one.
- Scans and Findings: Existing scans at this location. In addition, once benchmark(s) are applied to a location, the “Create Scan for Location” button under the Scans section allows a manual scan to be created for the user to fill out with answers to the Location benchmark questions.
