Title
Multiple Vulnerabilities in Microsoft Kernel-Mode Drivers (Cat II impact)
Discussion
Microsoft has released a security bulletin addressing multiple vulnerabilities in Windows Kernel-Mode Drivers. The Windows kernel is the core of the operating system. It provides system-level services such as device management and memory management, allocates processor time to processes and manages error handling. To exploit these vulnerabilities, an attacker would first have to log on to the system. An attacker could then run a specially crafted application designed to increase privileges. If successfully exploited, this vulnerability could run arbitrary code in kernel mode. An attacker could then install programs; view, change, or delete data; or create new accounts with full administrative rights.
