Check: SRG-APP-000018-MAPP-NA
Mobile Application SRG:
SRG-APP-000018-MAPP-NA
(in version v1 r1)
Title
The application must monitor for unauthorized remote connections to the information system on an organization-defined frequency. (Cat II impact)
Discussion
Organizations need to monitor for unauthorized remote access connections to information systems in order to determine if break-in attempts or other unauthorized activity is occurring. There are already other SRG requirements for applications to generate audit connection logs to record connection activity. It is for the organization to determine which of those audited connections is unauthorized. This task is usually handled by the IDS, log alarming or some other security mechanism specifically designed to automate and address this requirement. This requirement is NA for applications not designed to monitor for unauthorized remote connections to information systems. Applications designed to meet this requirement must be able to do so on an organization defined frequency. Rationale for non-applicability: Mobile applications that support remote access to the mobile device are outside the scope of this SRG. Applications supporting remote access to the mobile device are not permitted on DoD CMD, with the exception of native OS support for personal hotspots and USB tethering that is compliant with the MOS SRG. The SRG scope also does not cover applications which include plug-in or portable code that will make the application: (i) support multiple users; (ii) enable remote user access or administration; and (iii) provide network or application services to other nodes.
